Long-term active restoration of degraded grasslands enhances vegetation resilience by altering the soil seed bank

چکیده

Abstract Long-term active restoration is often employed to restore degraded grasslands. The establishment of a viable soil seed bank the key successful restoration, as it enhances resilience vegetation. However, little known how affects vegetation following long-term We determined abundance and species composition properties intact, degraded, (>10 years) actively restored grasslands on Tibetan plateau (3900–4200 m a.s.l.). plant-soil-seed quality index structural equation modelling (SEM) were used assess effect resilience. After by sowing seeds native plant species, densities transient persistent increased 5%, but richness (number species) decreased 25% when compared with This occurred largely result an increase in grass decrease forb seeds. Persistent grasses play important role productivity grasslands, while density serves indicator A combination community density. Here, we show for first time that altering bank. high sown Gramineae low forbs

Soil Seed Bank and Plant Community Development in Passive Restoration of Degraded Sandy Grasslands

To evaluate the efficacy of passive restoration on soil seed bank and vegetation recovery, we measured the species composition and density of the soil seed bank, as well as the species composition, density, coverage, and height of the extant vegetation in sites passively restored for 0, 4, 7, and 12 years (S0, S4, S7, and S12) in a degraded grassland in desert land. Compared with S0, three more...

Effects of 10-Year Management Regimes on the Soil Seed Bank in Saline-Alkaline Grassland

BACKGROUND Management regimes for vegetation restoration of degraded grasslands can significantly affect the process of ecological succession. However, few studies have focused on variation in the soil seed bank during vegetation restoration under different management regimes, especially in saline-alkaline grassland habitats. Our aim was to provide insights into the ecological effects of grassl...

The potential for vegetation restoration from soil seed bank in abandoned croplands on the hilly-gullied Loess Plateau, China

The results of field survey, germination and correspondence analysis showed that the soil seed banks density ranged from 900 to 6,467 seeds m at 0-5 cm depth and 117 to 2,467 seeds m at 5-10 cm depth, with species richness of 7-14. Early successional species dominated the soil seed bank, while later successional species occurred only at low density. The similarity between soil seed bank and sta...

The ancestral process of long term seed bank models

We present a new model for seed banks, where direct ancestors of individuals may have lived in the near as well as the very far past. The classical Wright-Fisher model, as well as a seed bank model with bounded age distribution considered by Kaj, Krone and Lascoux (2001) are special cases of our model. We discern three parameter regimes of the seed bank age distribution, which lead to substanti...

Block of 5-HT2 Receptors Enhances Hippocampal Long-Term Potentiation

The effect of endogenous serotonin on long-term potentiation (LTP) in region CAI was studied by blocking 5-HT2 receptors with ketanserin in rat hippocampal slices. Such a block significantly en-hanced long-term potentiation of the CAI population spike induced by high frequency stimulation of the schaffer collateral/ commissural pathway. This implies that serotonin acts on 5-HT2 receptors in CAI...
